DFA reopens embassy in Morocco
THE Philippines reopened its embassy in Morocco after being closed for nearly 30 years as the Philippines and Morocco finalized agreements on air services and political consultations.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. led the inauguration of the chancery of the Philippine embassy in Rabat.
In a statement on Thursday, the DFA said the re-opened Philippine embassy is in Souissi, Rabat where the majority of diplomatic missions are located.
Moroccan Ambassador Fouad Yazough, director general for bilateral relations of the Ministry Foreign Affairs, also attended the event.
Locsin said the Philippines and Morocco can explore opportunities for growth in all aspects of relations as the two countries move toward 50 years of diplomatic ties in 2025.
The DFA chief met with members of the Filipino community in Morocco where he reiterated the Philippine government’s commitment to safeguard their rights and promote their interests and welfare.
The Philippines and Morocco finalized the agreements on air services, political consultations, and cooperation between the Philippine Foreign Service Institute and Moroccan Academy for Diplomatic Studies. Locsin and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita signed the said agreements.
The air services agreement aims to enhance the level of safety of international air transport between the Philippines and Morocco, as well as contribute to the economic and social development of both countries.
The memorandum of agreement on political consultations seeks to establish a legal basis for regular consultations between the respective foreign ministries of the Philippines and Morocco to discuss all aspects of bilateral relations.
The MoA between the respective diplomatic training institutions of Morocco and the Philippines reinforces the framework for dynamic cooperation between said institutions in terms of training junior diplomats and exchange of information and best practices in the field of diplomatic and international relations.
The agreements provide a framework for the Philippines and Morocco to strengthen and promote bilateral cooperation on areas covered by these agreements, as well as contribute to the overall development of both countries.
