Fajardo more motivated to win another PBA crown

- REY JOBLE

SIX-TIME PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo is back in his old deadly form and this early, made a strong case for another run for the most prestigious individual award.

On Sunday, the 6-foot-10 center copped his ninth Best Player of the Conference award — seventh in the all-Filipino.

Fajardo considers the award as special just like the other individual awards he was able to capture throughout his PBA career.

But for the league’s most dominant force, winning the BPC won’t mean anything if the Beermen won’t be able to get the job done of winning the championship.

“That’s what we’ve been targeting, to win a championship,” Fajardo told The Manila Times. “It’s been three years since the last time we won a championship. If ever we won’t get it, I will be disappointed, not the team, but myself.”

Fajardo has been producing monster numbers lately.

In Game 3, he had a huge stats line of 27 points and 27 rebounds.

But on Sunday, the TNT Tropang Giga were able to spoil the celebration as they walloped the Beermen, 100-87, to level the series at 2-2 apiece.

In Game 4, Fajardo missed a chance of becoming the first local player to post backto-back 20-20 performances. He ended up with 20 points and 19 rebounds, but more than that, he was more disappointed that they were not able to win the match which would have put them on the threshold of winning its sixth all-Filipino title in the last eight stagings of this tournament.

With the series now reduced to a best-ofthree affair, Fajardo believes Game 5 will be so pivotal it could serve as the turning point of the series.
