Panahon TV announces RRSV project
WEATHER channel Panahon TV unveiled on Thursday its planned project for its 10th anniversary: The Rapid Radio Support Vehicle (RRSV) project. This project will be tackled by Panahon TV, Ube Express and Integrated Waste Management Inc.
In the channel’s 10th anniversary celebration, Ube Express President Garrie David and Ube Express system technician Aaron Paul Balatucan co-presented this project, which aims to respond to crises and offer reliable, stable two-way communication in any region of the Philippines hit by natural calamities.
“This project started when we chatted with Air21, another one of the companies of the Lina group, and asked how we can solve the problem of delivering the weather news. Right now, we are in talks with several companies, such as Angat Buhay and the Amateur Radio Group, on how we make this project a reality, and we are
very thankful for them for giving us a chance,” David said.
The RRSV is a vehicle which is armed with basic and special equipment to provide portable and stable communication service. Balatucan said this will be a vehicle which will be ready to deploy to areas affected by typhoons or disasters, particularly during the first 48 hours to a maximum of five days.
“The planned unit will be fully equipped with basic communication radios for its services such as a repeater radio, an expandable antenna, a land mobile radio, other radio portables and SAT (satellite) phones as well,” Balatucan enumerated.
He said it will also be equipped with necessities that will support the unit during its operations such as a gasoline generator, a regulated power supply complete with wires and extensions, inverters, solar panels, lights and fuses, and packed food and water.
“To also point out, in case of an emergency, we also plan to equip the vehicle with shovels and hammers, some mechanical tools, electrical tools and other networking tools to address certain situations,” Balatucan pointed out.
Lastly, he emphasized that the personnel who are going out to the field will be equipped with the necessary practices, orientations and training in order to provide services on the field as well.
“Even if our operators have radio operator training, we are not just about communication. We will also equip our operators with other necessary training needed in a disaster such as Emergency Preparedness Training, Disaster Relief Training and First Aid Training,” Balatucan concluded. “This all to ensure that we will be always ready when the time comes.”
