‘Karding’ cancels PBA, NCAA, SSL

THE Philippine Basketball Associatio­n (PBA), National Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (NCAA), and the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) suspended their respective games on Sunday due to the threat of Typhoon “Karding.”

Their games will be reschedule­d to later dates.

“Karding,” which had been categorize­d by the Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion (Pagasa) as a super typhoon, was expected to make landfall on Sunday night.

The PBA was supposed to stage its Commission­er’s Cup double-header featuring the battle between the Meralco Bolts and the NLEX Road Warriors at 4:30 p.m. as well as the match between the Converge FiberXers and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel at 6:45 p.m at the Mall of Asia Arena.

In the NCAA, the oldest collegiate basketball league in the country was set to unfurl the contest between the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Blazers at 12 p.m. as well as the match between the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas and the San Beda University Red Lions at 3 p.m at the FilOil EcoOil Center.

Over at the SSL, the organizers was supposed to offer another quadrupleh­eader starting with the game between the Letran Lady Knights and Saint Benilde Lady Blazers at 12 p.m. followed by the match between the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals and the Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons at 2 p.m.

The third offering was the tiff between the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses and the Lyceum of the Philippine­s University Lady Pirates at 4 p.m. followed by the match between the University of the Philippine­s Fighting Maroons and the Mapua University Lady Cardinals at 6 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

SSL’s opening day on Saturday actually reached early Sunday after a total of 19 sets were played. The University of the East defeated the Mapua Lady Cardinals in five sets; the Perpetual Altas fended off the San Beda Lady Red Spikers in four; the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws outlasted the Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in five; and the UST Golden Tigresses outdueled the AdU Lady Falcons in five.
