- ARCH.ADRIANMICHAELC. KATIPUNAN, UAP, RMP

NINAW — the event title of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Manila Corinthian Chapter celebrating its 33rd Founding Anniversary and World Architecture Day (WAD) 2022 — a Hiligaynon translation of mirror (also used as aninag in Tagalog) was the chapter’s symbol of retrospect, using our experiences to redefine the future, as they laid out a series of activities from September to October thus carrying UAP’s Corporate Thrust V.O.I.C.E.S.

In line with WAD 2022 theme “Architecture for Well-being,” the chapter started with a Mobile Photo Competition for architecture students, launched on September 1, to capture the theme in three different categories — Stills, Black and White, and Photo Essay. It was followed by participating on First Friday Mass at UAP Headquarters conducted online, visiting the WorldBex at SMX Convention Center to officially launch its monthlong celebration, a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Project, bowling and billiards tournament, a symposium and anniversary night, and a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Webinar and Workshop on WELL Building Standards held on September 2, 3, 17, 24, 29 and October 8, respectively.

One of the highlights was the launching of Corinthian CSR: Akto Arkitekto — a program creates in response to requests from letters, emails, social media posts or mass media publications seeking assistance to improve a particular community covering barangay (villages), schools, markets, religious places, parks, etc., while promoting the architectural profession. It supports all Corinthian CSR projects such as Corinthian Kalinga, Arkitektura sa Barangay, Brigada Eskwela, Ken Estioko Day and PasKorinthian Gift-Giving.

In response, Muntinlupa National High School Senior High Building through teacher Charmagne Ponce, yours truly, and Chapter Committee Chairman on Education Arch. Maria Monica Pujalte met District Principal Dr. Antonio Rocha to discuss the chapter’s mission and identify priority areas.

On September 17, the board of directors together with industry partners from El Artisan and Boysen Paints turned over donations such as face masks, alcohols, re-used cabinets, storage boxes, cleaning implements, wall fans and paints — subsequently utilized on the actual development of a classroom, painted concertedly with Ponce’s class — the first recipients of providing a better learning environment and protecting the students well-being.

The aforementioned activities of UAP Manila Corinthian under WAD 2022 Celebration is just one of the multitudes of events the UAP is offering to serve the profession, the professionals, the professional organization and the community. Collectively, we should look through Aninaw to seek inspiration, improving and sharing the architectural profession to the society.

Graduating from the Pamantasang ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Arch. Adrian Michael Katipunan, UAP, RMP, is a practicing architect and a registered master plumber currently serving as the chapter president of Manila Corinthian Chapter. He also served the chapter AS DIRECTOR FOR FY (fiSCAL YEAR) 20162017, TREASURER FOR FY 2020-2021 and vice president – operations for FY 2021-2022.
