UMak, Azzuri win in Challengers Cup

UNIVERSITY of Makati-Davao Aguilas and Azzuri FC notched victories in the men’s under-23 and women’s open divisions, respectively, at the Pacquiao 3-in-1 Challengers Cup on Wednesday at the University of Makati Stadium, Makati City.

UMak edged Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), 2-1, even as Azurri defeated UMak’s women’s team, 1-0.

Cielo Rendon gave UMak men’s the lead with a goal in the 19th minute and Cris Valderama added another point in the 54th.

PUP got within one after Paul Madrona found the back of the net in the 74th but the UMak booters secured the win with solid defense the rest of the way.

Romel Cataranin was named Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, Princess dela Rosa delivered the lone goal in the AzurriUMak women’s match in the 34th minute. Fittingly, dela Rosa captured the Player of the Match award.
