OVP sends aid to towns affected by ‘Paeng’

THE Office of the Vice President (OVP) has sent additional relief aid in Cabuyao City and Pagsanjan in Laguna which were both affected by Tropical Storm “Paeng.”

Through the OVP-Disaster Operation Center (DOC), each town received 50 sacks of rice, 15 boxes of noodles and 75 packs of biscuits, which were delivered last Thursday.

Pagsanjan Mayor Cesar Areza thanked Vice President Sara Duterte for sending the relief assistance to their town, which will be given to affected families in riverside areas. He noted that the town is easily flooded as there are seven tributaries across Pagsanjan.

He added that it was the OVP who was the first agency to respond to their needs.

“Our priority now is those affected by Paeng, such as those in the riverside. We will give these items immediately to our citizens who were affected by the storm,” Areza said.

Cabuyao City Vice Mayor Leif Opina said that most of the affected families in the city lived around Laguna Lake, where most villages were situated, and had to be evacuated the night Paeng hit the city.

He added that the challenge now is that some villages in the city remain flooded.

Opina thanked Duterte for the help that her office had given to their residents.

“Rest assured that through the city government and our village leaders, we will be able to deliver this aid to the citizens who are in need of help,” Opina said.

Prior to this, the OVP-DOC had held two rounds of relief operations in Laguna, starting in San Pedro City, the town of Paete, and the cities of Biñan and Sta. Rosa, respectively.

It has also distributed relief assistance in other Paeng-affected areas such as Bacoor City in Cavite, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Cotabato City, Hilongos and Bato towns in Southern Leyte, Zamboanga City, and the provinces of Antique and Cagayan.
