Petro Gazz seeks to secure semis spot
DEFENDING champion Petro Gazz looks to clinch a semifinals berth as it battles winless United Auctioneers Inc.-Army in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference today, November 19, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The third-running Angels take on the cellar-dwelling Lady Troopers at 2:30 p.m.
Petro Gazz is coming off a five-set win over Chery Tiggo last Saturday to bounce back from a five-set loss against Cignal on November 10.
Petro Gazz American reinforcement Lindsey Vander Weide said that their win over the Crossovers gave them the “jolt of energy” they needed to rejuvenate their semis bid.
“It definitely feels great to get this win, especially after that tough five set loss (to Cignal),” said Weide, who led Petro Gazz past Chery Tiggo with 29 points.
“It’s definitely a confidence booster. I think it’s something that we need, we have to be feeling great. I think it brought us back to where we needed to be.”
A win over the Army today would make the Angels the third team to make the round robin semifinals after Creamline and Chery Tiggo.
A loss, however, would make the race for the final two semis seats complicated as Cignal (33), F2 Logistics (3-3), and Choco Mucho (3-4) are also trying to advance with one more playing day left on Tuesday.
The already-eliminated United Auctioneers Inc.-Army just wants to make a graceful exit in the tournament and get their first win.
The Lady Troopers suffered their seventh loss in as many games after succumbing to the Creamline Cool Smashers last Saturday.
After the Angels-Lady Troopers contest, Cignal and F2 Logistics collide at 5:30 p.m. as both teams also aim to make the semis.
