Maserati MC20 lands in PH shores

- BY ALAIN LOUISE GERONIMO

MASERATI’s Philippine distributor Modena Motorsports Inc. launched its halo supercar, the MC20, in a private media event in its dealership in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The MC20 is Maserati’s very special model in the lineup, slotting at the top of the lineup or above the Grecale, Levante Ghibli, and the Quattroporte. The brand is no stranger to mid-engined cars, with models such as the Bora, Merak, and the MC12, but what sets the MC20 apart from the older models is that it was developed entirely in-house, from the engine, to the interior and exterior.

The exterior is a product of a collaboration between Dallara and Maserati Centro Stile, fusing elegance with aerodynamic functionality. Every line, vent and curve serve a purpose, more than just being striking to look at. The oblong front grille, decorated with the iconic Maserati trident, follows the tradition of Maserati race cars that have raced since the 1960s.

Inside the MC20’s Dallara-constructed tub is a sporty interior lined with stitched Sabelt leather bucket seats, carbon accents, as well as Alcantara. On the carbon fiber center console is a circular driving mode selector, as well as buttons for gear mode changes, door lock, windows as well as media playback. Connectivity has been made priority as well for the MC20, with a smartphone pad for wireless charging, as well as a 10-inch touch controlled infotainment system with Maserati Connect, which allows Apple CarPlay, and is slanted toward the driver for better accessibility.

Even for a supercar, there are storage spaces on both the front and back, with the front having enough space for tools, as well as access to the air filter and the washer fluid. Also, the rear space can accommodate small luggage as well as a backpack.

Powering the MC20 is a dry-sump 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine producing 620 hp and 730 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. This propels the MC20 from 0 to 100 kph in 2.9 seconds and to a 325-kph top speed. Large carbon ceramic Brembo brakes give the supercar worthy stopping power.

Available colors include Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma and Grigio Mistero. The car is built to bespoke order, so pricing may depend on the spec of the MC20 buyer. The brand’s dealership is located in BGC, Taguig.
