PH alumni of TW universities gather in Makati
THE Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines held a dinner reception for the members of the Taiwan Alumni Association in the Philippines at the Hexagon Lounge of RCBC Plaza on November 17. Sixty alumni who pursued different levels of studies in Taiwan attended the gathering, three years after the last reunion dinner. In his welcoming remarks, Representative Michael Peiyung Hsu expressed his appreciation to the members of the association for their contribution to the enhancement of the relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines.
He shared how more Filipino students are choosing Taiwan universities to pursue higher studies and learning Mandarin.
Hsu encouraged everyone to serve as goodwill ambassadors for the promotion of studying and working in Taiwan. Among the attendees and also the keynote speaker was Education Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Department Jumamil-Mercado. She received her doctorate degree from the Graduate Institute of Mainland China Studies in 2007 at the National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
During the program, it was announced that the association will become a formal organization with the main purpose of promoting bilateral relations between Taiwan and the Philippines through a network of Taiwan alumni, followed by the presentation of the by-laws and official logo.
The Philippine group is among 126 overseas compatriot alumni associations worldwide aimed to strengthen the political, economic and cultural relations between Taiwan and its allies.
TECO Philippines and the Taiwan Alumni Association in the Philippines will work closely together to promote higher education and talent cultivation in Taiwan for Filipino citizens.
