PhilPost to unveil FVR stamps
THE Philippine Post Office (PhilPost) will unveil today, November 25, commemorative stamps in honor of the late former president Fidel V. Ramos (FVR), in line with its goal of promoting Filipino heritage and culture through the study and collection of stamps.
Ramos, the 12th president of the Philippines and an avid stamp collector, issued Proclamation 494 in 1994, declaring November as National Stamp Collecting Month.
“[President Ramos’] great leadership and concern for history, arts and culture can be seen through his stamps, collections and memorabilia which shall be opened by his family and guests,” said Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio, pertaining to the opening of the President Fidel V. Ramos Commemorative Exhibit and Memorabilia at the historic Manila Central Post Office in Liwasang Bonifacio.
Fulgencio said the twin event is part of the celebration of the National Stamp Collecting Month and the 255th Anniversary of the Philippine Postal System.
Expected to attend the event are former Philippine Olympic
Committee president Cristina Martinez-Ramos, fourth child among five daughters of FVR; National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairman Rene Escalante; National Commission for Culture and the Arts Executive Director Oscar Casaysay; and Parañaque City Councilor Jose Enrico Golez.
