Conversations with ‘Turandot’ leads
GIACOMO Puccini’s opera “Turandot” will be staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on December 9 at 8 p.m. and December 11 at 3 p.m. It is presented by the CCP, Filipinas Opera Society Foundation, Inc and Rustan Group of Companies, with Embassy of Italy as major sponsor.
We recently interviewed two of its performers, Alessandro Liberatore (tenor) who performs as Prince Calaf, the Unknown Prince, and Lilla Lee (soprano) as Princess Turandot.
Alessandro Liberatore is a winner of several singing competitions such as the Enrico Caruso: City of Neptune and Zandini competitions. In 2002, he sang alongside Luciano Pavarotti in Monte Carlo and made his debut in the following months as Rodolfo in La Boheme, directed by Luciano Pavarotti, staged in Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
He has performed the role of Alfredo (La Traviata) with Circuito Lirico Lombardo in Salerno, Sassari, and Bolzano in Italy, and in Madrid in a production of Franco Zeffirelli; as well as Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly” in Tokyo and other Japanese theaters.
Recently, he sang the role of Rodolfo in “La Boheme” in Hong Kong.
We interviewed Alessandro recently, and here is that interview.
You were a student of the great Luciano Pavarotti, what was the most important lesson he shared with you? The study with Luciano Pavarotti was for me the most important thing in my life. He gave me a lot of important suggestion for the voice technique but also for the life in general. He was a great and generous person and he taught me the respect for the public and the Opera.
At the end of every opera, what do you want the audience to remember regarding your performance?
