Go seeks justice for Ranara

- JAVIER JOE ISMAEL

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go sought justice for the killing of Jullebee Ranara, the Filipino worker who was brutally killed in Kuwait.

“I condole and join her family in asking for justice for the death of our fellow Filipino. I have faith in the capability of DMW, OWWA, NBI and other concerned agencies. This is the reason why we push for the creation of DMW so there will be an agency that is focused on this kind of case,” he said, referring to the Department of Migrant Workers, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and National Bureau of Investigation.

The senator attended the wake of the victim on Monday night in Las Piñas City.

The body of the Filipino victim was found in a desert in Kuwait last week and was reportedly burned.

The primary suspect, a 17-yearold Kuwaiti who is the son of Ranara’s employer, has been arrested by the authorities.

The NBI conducted an autopsy on Ranara’s cadaver upon the request of the victim’s family.

“I am here for the entire family of Jullebee. It’s a coincidence that DMW Secretary Susan Ople and OWWA Chief Arnell [Ignacio] are also here. Former President Rodrigo Duterte and Pastor [Apollo] Quiboloy are on the SMNI program and condole with the family. The former president also sent a little help to Jullebee’s family,” Go said.

During the wake, Duterte also expressed his condolences through a live broadcast in SMNI News’ “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” segment, saying, “We sympathize with you. I am sorry [that] this thing has to happen.”

The senator renewed his call for the government to intensify its efforts and protection safeguards for every Filipino working abroad.

He urged relevant agencies to give the case due attention and help the family.
