NDRRMC: Death toll now at 43

The national disaster risk reduction and management council (ndrrmc) on tuesday said the death toll due to the effects of the floods and heavy rains brought about by the shear line, low-pressure area and northeast monsoon since late december 2022 now climbed to 43.

The NDRRMC also said the estimated cost of damage to agricultur­e and infrastruc­ture is at P1,059,352,780.11 and P521,914,324.68, respective­ly.

The National Irrigation Administra­tion also reported P25,805,759 worth of damage to the country’s irrigation system.

Based on its updated situation report, the NDRRMC said eight persons are still missing and 11 individual­s were reported injured.

Of the reported deaths, the NDRRMC said Region 5 (Bicol Region) has recorded with the highest at 13 persons followed by Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) at 12, Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) at eight, Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) at seven, and one each in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Region 11 (Davao Region) and Region 12 (Soccsksarg­en).

Moreover, the NDRMMC said a total of 497,273 families or 2,044,711 persons were affected by the bad weather.

Of the figure, some 1,800 families or 7,416 persons coming from at least 2,688 villages were served inside 78 evacuation centers while 2,548 families or 1,881 persons opted to stay with their friends or relatives.

The NDRRMC said that there were 1,888 houses that were damaged, 563 of which were totally damaged and 1,325 were partially damaged.

A state of calamity was declared in at least 19 municipali­ties and three provinces in Region 8 and a village in Region 10, the NDRRMC said.
