MTRCB calls out unauthorized showing of ‘Mang Kanor’
THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), in the exercise of its mandate under Section 7, Presidential Decree No. 1986 (PD No. 1986), on Monday issued Notices to Appear on to three entities concerning the exhibition of the motion picture “Mang Kanor,” and its related publicity materials.
The first is the movie’s producer, A&Q Entertainment and Prime Stream Inc., for causing the exhibition of the Mang Kanor at the Gateway Cineplex in Gateway Mall, Cubao, QC, without the required MTRCB Permit to Exhibit. In effect, the company has violated Section 1, Chapter 5 of PD No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) concerning Section 3 of PD No. 1986. They also exhibited unapproved publicity materials for the motion picture. The same violations have been handed to Uniprom Inc., Gateway Cinemas’ mother company.
The third set of summons was finally sent to Cignal TV Inc.’s One PH for showing video excerpts from the motion picture Mang Kanor on air. The trailer featured torrid kissing, apparent nudity, threesomes and sexual intercourse in violation of Section 2, Chapter 5 of PD No. 1986 and its IRR concerning Section 3 (c) of PD No. 1986.
The board reiterates that as businesses engaged in the provision of motion picture content to Filipino viewers, they carry a civic and moral obligation to comply with the law.
Directed by Greg Colasito, Mang Kanor is based on a true story of a senior citizen whose sex videos became viral on the internet in 2018. It stars veteran character actor Rez Cortez as the title’s lead.
Responses from the three entities summoned on Monday were still unavailable as of press time.
