CHIEF Minister Ahod Ebrahim of the of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has joined Vice President Sara Duterte in condemning the ambush of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. and his aides on Friday near the town of Maguin on their way to Wao, Lanao del Sur.

Four escorts of the governor died in the attack. In a statement, Ebrahim over the weekend said the Bangsamoro government deplores the attack, which, he added, has no place in the autonomous region.

Ebrahim said the incident undermined the region’s vision for peace and development.

He appealed for a thorough investigation of the ambush to bring justice to the victims.

Ebrahim said the Bangsamoro government reaffirms its stand and solidarity against the culture of violence and impunity.

He added that they are praying for the quick recovery of the governor and his aides.

The vice president posted a statement on the official Facebook account of the provincial government of Lanao del Sur deploring the attack on Adiong and his men.

“As a nation, we would collectively reject this cowardly act of violence and demand that the perpetrators are immediately brought to justice. I commiserate with the bereaved families of the four security escorts of Gov[ernor] Adiong who died in the ambush. I pray for the speedy recovery of Gov[ernor] Adiong and the other injured persons,” Duterte said.

Adiong is Lakas-CMD (Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats) vice president for the BARMM.

Pangnal Datu Ramos, former governor of Lanao del Sur, supported the vice president’s call for government authorities to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime, bring them to justice and be punished accordingly.
