Dasma Cavite wins over Toledo in PCAP

INTERNATIO­NAL Master Master Daniel Quizon and Alexis Emil Maribao powered the Dasma Cavite Spartans to a 12.5-8.5 victory over the Internatio­nal Master Kim Steven Yap-led ToledoXign­ex Trojans in a clash of the league titans in the PCAP All-Filipino Conference Wednesday night, April 24.

Quizon, the reigning National Open champion, scored victories against Allan Pason in the blitz event and Internatio­nal Master Joel Pimentel in the rapid event while Maribao toppled Bonn Rainauld Tibod in their blitz showdown and Pason in rapid play to help propel the Spartans to solo second place with a 14-2 winloss record in the Northern Division.

“I am happy with my performanc­e tonight,” said the 20-year-old Quizon.

Quizon, who has already completed all three Grandmaste­r norms, needed to raise his 2460 Elo Standard rating to 2500 to become a full-fledged GM.

Maribao played very well and helped us win the match-up,” said Spartans coach Benjie Bercadez.

Also delivering for Cavite on Wednesday were Internatio­nal Master Michael Concio Jr., Kevin Arquero, Grandmaste­r Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., Woman Internatio­nal Master Kylen Joy Mordido and FIDE Master Roel Abelgas.

The Dasma Cavite ouplayed ToledoXign­ex in the blitz, 4.5-2.5, and the rapid event, 8-6.

Earlier, the Spartans gave up one draw in the entire match-up for a 20.50.5 victory over the Tacloban Vikings.

Prince Richvil Mella prevented a shutout loss for Tacloban after forcing a draw with Abelgas in the blitz competitio­n.

San Juan, meanwhile, defeated Negros, 17-4, and Tacloban Vikings, 192, on Wednesday to remain on top in the Northern Division with a 15-1 slate.

The Southern Division, on the other hand, was led by Toledo and Camarines with identical 12-4 marks.
