Food festival ushers in 75 years of PH-Turkiye relations
THE Turkish Embassy in Manila launched “Flavors of Turkiye” Food Festival on April 15 at the Escolta Restaurant of The Peninsula Manila to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Turkiye. The festival will run until May 15.
Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines Niyazi Evren Akyol and his wife Indri Akyol welcomed guests as he explained the mouth-watering dishes on display.
He addressed an eager audience, which included media practitioners, members of the diplomatic corps, businessmen, government officials, and Turkish Airlines executives. He highlighted that Turkish cuisine has roots dating back more than a millennium, incorporating diverse cultures and traditions laden with spices that contribute to the distinct flavor of the country’s culinary art today.
The ambassador also noted the deepening relationship between Turkiye and the Philippines and sees burgeoning opportunities for Turkish investors in the latter, same with strong people-to-people exchanges in tourism, business and even education.
“On this occasion of our 75th year of bilateral relations, we look forward to many more wonderful journeys with the Philippines and the Filipino people,” he said.
Lunch is served from 12 noon to 3 p.m., dinner at 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday brunch at 12 noon to 3 p.m.
Guests dining at Escolta Restaurant during the festival can win a roundtrip ticket and a three-night stay in Istanbul courtesy of Turkish Airlines and The Peninsula Istanbul.
