Affordable housing to be built in Leyte

- MOISES CRUZ

MACARTHUR, Leyte – Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Eastern Visayas regional director Michael Victor Tezon and MacArthur town mayor Rudin Babante signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to formalize the establishment of the Abante MacArthur Residences as part of the government’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH) initiative to provide affordable housing to the people.

The four buildings, composed of 408 units, will be developed on a 1.2-hectare area in Poblacion District 3, beside the national highway.

“If the weather goes our way, one of the four buildings will likely be completed and handed over to qualified beneficiaries after 6-8 months,”Tezon said.

“The 4PH initiative is genuine, and we are thrilled to share the President’s decision to give affordable homes to the people,” he added.

The 4PH initiative is a nationwide housing program that began in September 2022 with the goal of achieving zero informal settlers by 2028.

The Marcos government wants to create 1 million housing units each year to solve the country’s 6.5 million housing backlog.

Tezon told reporters that each 27-square-meter home will cost around P1.3 million with Pag-IBIG financing, which is already a fraction of the cost of a commercial housing unit.

“For the 472 candidates and counting, it is still up to validation so that the quality and inexpensive home would be delivered to the deserving citizens of MacArthur,” Babante said.

“There will be further projects aimed at improving the municipality,” he added.
