Patty Ang’s S/ S ’ 19 collection is every girl’s dream

Femininity has been redefined in the 21st century. From the traditional prim and proper ideal, the new feminine is now defined as the woman who achieves greater than what she is expected of. From women like Serena Williams who has achieved 23 grand slam wins to Josie Trinidad, who is now Disney Animation’s Head of Story, they are pushing boundaries all while looking their most beautiful. These are the types of women who Patty Ang designs for: women who are not afraid to look good while achieving their dreams.

A go-getter herself, Patty Ang knew that designing clothes was a passion she wanted a career in. Remembering her prom dress created by Rajo Laurel as a teen, she then became really curious on the underpinnings and the creation of an actual fashion piece. She then took a design course at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines right after she graduated from college, and soon enough, Patty Ang built a complete atelier, dutifully assembling an able team to realize her vision. The beginnings were very challenging as she had yet to master the business side of fashion, but through this period, she was able to experience both sides of the industry she loves. She soon re-opened Atelier Patty Ang in Eastwood in 2014, crediting her parents and her

now husband, Miguel Almeda for helping her in all aspects of her dream.

Today, she has a massive team of people who realize her vision for the Patty Ang woman: effortless and strong with a value for modern silhouettes and clean design complemented with feminine details. “I value my people the most. I treasure every single one of them who works hard for the atelier. They are the heart of my brand,” she shares. The process of creation, especially building a collection, is always a process of trial and error. “We never put out a piece with just one try. We make different kinds of samples and tweak each one until we get the perfect version of it,” she says.

Most of her collections root from her travels around the world, and for this season, she creates a collection that reflects the chic women of her sojourns. Easy chic is the name of the game as straightforward cuts in neutral shades get ladylike with feathers and ruffles, while cool tailoring become modern with sheer fabrics. Monastic pieces achieve dramatic effect with exaggerated collars and shapes. The colors especially become a favorite as they are easy to wear and easy to accessorize, while evening dresses are minimalist enough to achieve maximum effect by accentuating a woman’s shape.

Whether you are a style risk-taker or prefer muted and womanly pieces, you are sure to find a piece fit for you in Atelier Patty Ang. Every piece of garment she creates is a clear reflection of who she is as a woman. Recently worn by women in Hollywood, she is eyeing the international fashion scene and we won’t be surprised if it comes sooner than we expect.
