MONUMENTS OF( W O) MEN
When you hear about fashion and the United States, you’d automatically imagine the laid back style of LA or the electric energy of New York, but this time, MEGA takes you to the beautiful landscapes of Arizona and bring an equally iconic woman as we share this story of creation narrated by the style icon herself, Kim Jones.
A long journey from home, it was the peak of winter when we landed at Page, Arizona’s municipal airport. We felt the chill throughout partly because of the cold, but mostly because of the beauty of Arizona. From where we were standing, one can see the panoramic expanse of the red sandstone deserts and mountains of Arizona all blanketed with ice. Just by this, we were confident we’d have a great shoot. And as the team finalized the locations, styling and beauty looks with contributing creative director and cover girl Kim Jones, there was an unprecedented look of assurance that this cover shoot will go down as one of the most breathtaking covers in the magazine’s history. Kim Jones was the perfect woman to lead this co-creation issue as she not only celebrates international style, but also because she tirelessly heralds local talent with The Fore Series. In many of her collaborations, she doesn’t just become the face, but becomes the creative force behind it. From ideation to conception, Kim Jones has shared her aesthetic and unique point-of-view in all the products she releases. This time, we delve into the masculine and the feminine and everything in between. In this turn, we showcase Kim Jones at her best—a style star, a branding virtuoso, and a creator.
Arriving at the locations, we were only allowed to shoot for 45 minutes total. This includes photo and video content while changing looks in the narrow pathways of Page’s slot canyons. It was a challenge, but the whole team trooped on. When the sun dipped and we all went back to the hotel, there was a certain satisfaction from a job well done. And guess what, the hunch that we had before? It was 100% accurate. We did shoot one of the most iconic covers MEGA has ever had.
