Re-worked Filipino patterns and tribal flavor rendered in modern and edgy silhouettes pervade Peach Resurreccion’s body of work
The tribal trend gets a streetwear make over with Peach Resurrecion
Could there ever be order in chaos? Structure in dishevelment? Serenity in disruption? At a time when everything else is seemingly falling apart—plummeting oil prices, the global economy shake-up—there’s always art or design to lean on for escapism. With a deluge of ironies and juxtapositions, it is in the artistic minds of young guns, such as Peach Resurreccion that we see a light at the end of the tunnel. Needless to say, art saves—period.
“I like the idea of controlled chaos. I think essentially that’s how my mind is anyway,” she explains. It is hard to grow an admired profitable fashion business, but Peach is proof of persistence, imagination, and complete dedication all at once as evidenced in her brand. Her deconstructed bomber jackets, spliced and slashed one-off tribal prints and patterns handmade by local weavers that percolate through each of her pieces show the pride and passion she has for her country.
“I’m bored with symmetry and linear thinking. My creativity is challenged by the logic of unconventionality,” she spells out. It is quite unknown what it is about this country that encourages such imaginative creations—think Rajo Laurel or Michael Cinco. But Peach is certainly putting her very best foot forward, marching on to even greater success—not just for herself, but for the ingenious artisans of the country as well.
