Global style stars Bryanboy and Tina Leung get real about the beauty industry

It’s not every day that you get personalities who openly talk about cosmetic procedures they’ve gotten done if they are not transitioning. And although Bryanboy and Tina Leung’s recent visit to Manila wasn’t exactly going under the knife for either of them, both are more than happy to talk about the quickie procedures they’ve gotten through the Belo Medical Group, whereas many might cover these up and credit it to a good skincare routine, exercise, sleep, “and drinking eight glasses of water a day”. You know what we’re talking about.

The two openly talk about Dr. Belo’s kinetic face lift, the Energet, which Bryan says is not painful and tightened everything and even lifted his eyes. “I just turned 37, and when you’re in your thirties, gravity is your enemy. You really have to get into regular maintenance program. I don’t want to be one of those people who lets go and gives up completely when my looks is kind of like my livelihood. It’s what pays my mortgage, you know!” he says.

Tina on the other hand raved about the “Emsculpt, which tones like 20,000 sit ups in one go. My lungs

felt like it was working! I only tried it once, but right after, when I stood up my butt was a lot rounder than it was!”

Bryan, in particular is much bolder in speaking about cosmetic procedures. “I love the idea of inspiring other people to go forward if they want to change something. I suffered from so much insecurities when I was younger as a normal person would— anyone in their twenties, everyone has insecurities—people made fun of my nose for being too big, people made fun of my teeth for being crooked so at that time I thought, why am I not doing anything about it? Should I just live with my insecurities and wait for it to go away, but it will never go away,” he says.

“I think there shouldn’t be any shame or any stigma associated with being beautiful. Like what I always say, most people who have a problem with what others are doing are not beautiful in the first place. It’s toxic. Why should people have a say on how other people look or how they should feel about themselves? It’s wrong for people to comment on other people’s looks.”

Is there anything Bryan wouldn’t do? “If I had time, I would change so many things about myself! I would get a liposuction! But I don’t have time.”

When it comes to beauty and style, Tina allows her fashion choices to inspire her beauty choices and says there’s no “never” for her. “I don’t think there’s a never—I’d try everything!”

Her favorite looks were the more playful beauty looks of multi-colored face crystals on the eyes and cheeks, gold eye shadow, and light pink lipstick, plus when she tried gold leaf on her eyes and hair. “I love playing with different things!”

Both Bryan and Tina have learned how to adjust their beauty choices to their travel requirements. Tina loves to slap on a rich cream or a face mask when she’s in the plane while Bryan is finding that minimizing his skincare routine has become important as he grows older. Both love Barbara Sturm’s line, Bryan also uses Dior and Tina rotates between SK-II, Caudalie, and Chanel. “Moisturizing is key when I travel and serums are a huge part of it. My skin is so dry. And also vitamin drinks,” Tina says.

Bryan and Tina confess that exercise and diet might not be their strongest suit— “I’m allergic to exercise. I’m allergic to diets, too. I love eating!” Bryan says, and credits the need to eat as a form of bonding to their shared Asian roots. But Bryan ensures that he only eats freshly prepared food. “I don’t eat anything that comes from a plastic package, or preserved food. I like it freshly made. As opposed to chichirya. If you eat snacks, I think that’s dangerous. But I’m never going to be one of those people that’s going to be super healthy.”

“The gym doesn’t interest me, I get bored so easily. And I love junk food. Those are things I need to work on. And I don’t like to drink water too,” Tina confesses. “But I do need to take better care of myself. I do take vitamins and I do the IV drip. Yesterday I did the vitamin one for chronic fatigue.”

Right after their visit to Manila, the two were set to visit other southeast Asian cities for different events like a bag launch for Gucci in Kyoto and the launch of clothing line Self-Portrait in Langkawi.

Bryan’s next projects include directing short films for brands like Ferragamo, which he just started to do. He says, “I’ve always been the face of my brand for 15 years and although I still find it exciting, sometimes I just want a creative challenge. So what can I do with a brand that would amplify their message on a different format other than just taking a picture?”
