Explore duality with Chynna Mamawal

Immaculate and pure is the white swan, while her twin, the black swan finds pleasure in danger. One can easily feel the ambivalence and uncertainty in these types of situations, but can be revoked with self-assurance and adaptability. With these strongholds in mind, young designer Chynna Mamawal fashioned herself into a vision turned reality. Coming from an entrepreneurial background, she’s always had a sense of direction and a keen sense of the future, hence she persevered until she struck a chord of purpose.

Working for one of the biggest retail companies in the country for two years gave her an avenue to explore how to maneuver the fickle-minded market. “I wanted to know fashion on a deeper level business-wise first,” she says. With a strong training ground and concise knowledge of the industry, she decided to leave her comfort zone and went on to slowly build her empire, beginning with educating herself in fashion school.

“My inspiration is all about being bold and fearless, that’s why I used bright colors for this collection,” she shares. “I used green, yellow, pink, and just added white and black for balance.” Like the yin and yang, it’s always been every individual’s desire to find balance. “When I was just building my brand, I’ve always envisioned Chynna Mamawal as a global brand,” she declares. “So, I am working towards that little by little—being a global fashion brand that the Philippines can be proud of someday. Through my brand, I want to inspire Filipinos to be even more fearless and bolder when it comes to expressing themselves through their fashion choices.”

If there is anything to learn from this story is that there’s no one else that hinders our development other than ourselves. “The only person standing in your way is you,” and so goes the famous line in the film, The Black Swan. “It’s time to let her go.” From there, it won’t be long until absolute perfection is achieved, and this is something Chynna Mamawal defintiely looks on to as she continues to grow her brand in the country and hopefully soon, the world.
