You wear your hair every day of your life. Unlike clothes that you can dress in and out of, or makeup that you can always erase and reapply, your hair is a styling point that stays with you. People take pride in how they style their hair, from cut to color, as hairstyle becomes a means of expression for them. It can be a reflection of their personality, or an emulation of a trend or a celebrity’s look. As more styles spread rampant across social media, people yearn for a style they can truly call their own. For Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco of JURO Salon Exclusif, making clients excited about new hairstyles keeps their passion as hairdressers and as artists alive.

BEFORE THE FIRST CUT

“If the client has an idea for a hairstyle, can the hairdressers deliver that color, cut, and texture? For us, we do our best. If we don’t keep them excited, then our job will be boring–it’s the same thing all the time,” expresses Jude. As partners in the salon, Jude and Rose’s passion for their craft is palpable, you can instantly feel it. They always look for new ways to showcase their skills. But it’s never a one-way street for hair styling, as artists would always need their canvas to channel that outbursting energy. “As stylists, it helps a lot if we have a certain rapport with our clients. It’s easier for us to know the person’s lifestyle, the look they prefer, and their willingness to change,” says Jude. Rose echoes this statement: “You don’t sit on the chair and start cutting and coloring away. We have to listen to what they want and give them professional advice when needed. We have to be honest with them. It’s about being upfront, honest, and careful with the client’s hair.” Consultation is always the first step to great hairstyling for Jude and Rose, but your hair is just half the story; your entire background and character is taken into consideration for a style you’d want to don. It’s all in the process of proper hair treatment. “We’re not your typical hairdressers. Do you come to our salon and just sit down? No. You come for the process, the expertise.”

LET THE COLORS FLOW

A lot of care and treatment is placed onto someone’s hair, and rightfully so. Jude puts it best: “There’s a saying that goes, ‘Hair is your crowning glory.’ It completes the look. It says a lot about the person and how they keep themselves.” Well-styled hair can either be an accent to your overall style or even carry an entire look, whether casual or dressed. But hairstyle goes beyond the cut and the form, it’s all about the color as well. Rose shares some benefits of having this edge: “Color adds depth and balances out your style. It enhances your features and cut and makes you more edgy, hip, and trendy.” Old or young, fully colored or just highlights, color makes you feel special, but for a truly unique color profile, Jude and Rose stand by L’Oréal MajiFashion.

Being the first generation of translucent and luminous permanent hair color, MajiFashion sets the bar for limitless creative possibilities through an intermix of colors designed for the Asian market. It’s versatile enough for hairdressers to experiment with new styles. “Hair color is the new makeup. If you have a very strong technical background, you can play with this a lot. You can blend its colors and create something that’s different from other clients,” says Rose. “I feel that we can create something that’s conservative to something very creative and high-fashion. It has a big range, that’s why it’s limitless. When properly done, you can have a galaxy of colors on your hair,” adds Jude.

ONLY FROM THE BEST

Their 26-year experience in the industry has made them experts in the field, and it excites them to have a new product they can use to unleash their creativity. But in the advent of do-it-yourself styling with online tutorials and easy-to-use products, Jude and Rose advise to stick with the professionals– both hairdressers and products–for a style that best fits you. “When it comes to hair, especially in cut and color, too many chefs spoil the broth. We have too many people, products, styles, and techniques. Find the best hairdresser given your budget, someone you can talk to freely and not be nervous on the chair.” The best hair style is not just about the final look, but about the overall salon experience. For Jude and Rose, every session with them through L’Oréal and MajiFashion will result to something unique and exciting. “Do you want hair like everybody else or do you want something that’s uniquely yours? When people look at you, they must say, ‘I want your hair.’ That’s the style you want: bespoke, custom-made just for you.”
