Full disclosure: While the September issue is probably one of the most exciting and anticipated months we have in our editorial calendar, it is also one of the most challenging and hardest to produce. Every year, we try to pull off something big, and this time, it was no exception. In fact, we can go on record saying that it gets increasingly challenging to mount, what with all that we’ve done so far set against what we set out to do.
While fashion is of course the main bind that ties it all together, we looked beyond the visual and heightened our sense of hearing. This time around, we listened, taking full inspiration from music and the rhythm that courses through it. Undeniably, music and fashion have always been connected, and what better way to celebrate this complementing combination by interpreting music genres and finding the perfect muses to represent them.
Unexpected, fresh, and exciting transformations was really our goal here, but more importantly, we also wanted to give the platform and put the spotlight on energetic, emerging, and exciting talents currently creating a ripple in the music scene today. It is truly an exhilarating time to be in the music industry as the landscape is so much different from before—where the variety is diverse and range is distinct. Needless to say, it is only fitting to pay homage and recognize these voices that are truly meant to be heard.
From an award-winning belter, young stars who also sing, to independent artists who have conquered the global stage, lend your ears and get to know our roster of musical
muses, and discover what else they have to say from their music and beyond. With their stories combined, it becomes clear as the songs they sing that it is a true reflection of their generations, all with a stirring sense of self and purpose.
It is also interesting to note that apart from culling inspiration from music this month, resulting in a labor of love realized in seven unique covers, we also struck a collaboration with communication app, Viber. All seven of our cover girls are immortalized as stickers, as well as other popular terminologies, expressions, and MEGA-isms related to the magazine, all of which are exclusively available on Viber. We do hope you take the time to check them out and use them to color your online conversations.
Music, like fashion is also about individuality, and so this month we also urge you to express yourself by trying out new trends that suit your personality or go completely off brand by trying something totally different—just remember to have fun and go with it! Now is the time to raise your voice, whether it be the literal or figurative sense, or articulated in melody, rhythm, and lyrics.
