We show a new side to the perennial standout, Janeena Chan
The quintessential host shares her beauty diary
The first time I met Janeena Chan, she was hosting a fashion event that was in danger of becoming a total snoozer. As many of these style events go, it started late and many of the guests were already on their third glass of vino. Through the feigned smiles and scant hors d’oeuvres, a voice boomed out of the speakers—confident, clear, and dare I say, peppy? Janeena strode to the center of the room, dressed in a slinky outfit, donning impeccable makeup and the shiniest, bounciest head of hair I’d ever seen. She spoke candidly, dared to make jokes and somehow got the crowd of hungry, hungover fashionistas giggling into their wine glasses.
I’ve seen her several times since, and witnessed her career blossom into the powerhouse that it is today. Janeena is everywhere as a TV, events and digital host, and a digital influencer. It’s easy to see why she’s in-demand: she’s undeniably beautiful, has a distinct sense of style, is unerringly professional and above all, a superb host with a genuinely pleasing personality. Unlike the others who rely on their looks and cue cards, Chan always has thoughtful, intelligent questions and commentary. And did I mention she jokes? She has many of them, from self-deprecating asides to full-on dad witticisms.
Out of the numerous times I’ve gotten to watch Janeena host or hung out with her at an event, I was always struck about how polished she is, in a way that is reminds one of a glamorous aunt or old time movie star. It’s not to say that she dresses or acts older, but she has a way of
putting herself together and presenting herself that is so different from many others. At 26 years old, Chan is more self assured and purposeful than many twice her age. I would know, as on the day of our shoot, I followed her around in chunky sneakers, denim and second day hair, while she sauntered around in heels and sleek designer pieces, not a single strand out of place from her signature wavy hairstyle. Well-mannered and self-effacing, Chan somehow finds a way to get along with everyone, from the photographer’s assistant to the glam team and the numerous passers-by. Her easy demeanor is reminiscent of another beautiful, glamorous chinita—someone that Janeena herself professes to admire greatly—Heart Evangelista Escudero. If she is indeed taking a few pages off of the frequent MEGA cover star’s book, it’s no coincidence that her career continues to rise. Perhaps in return, Janeena could give Ms. Evangelista Escudero a few dad jokes to crack.
BEAUTYTALKS
ON WHO’S BEAUTIFUL: Everyone is gifted with their own versions of beauty! And I truly find people more beautiful when they’re more than just surface level beauty! I find having talent, brains, personality, athleticism, charm and humor beautiful. But in terms of girl crushes it would be the likes of Liza Soberano and Heart because why question their beauty right? As well as Olivia Culpo and Thai Actresses Urassaya Sperbund and Davika Horne to name a few. I’ve got a long list! Aside from winning the genetic lottery, what makes them even more beautiful is also how dynamic and talented they are. I love it when they surprise and empower you to do it all and look good while you’re at it!
ON HER SIGNATURE LOOK: Barely-there glossy skin with either earth tones or vibrant fruity colors! It just looks so fresh and faultless. ON HER MANE EVENT:
"[I get my hair done in] Status Salon. [To style it, I] usually I go for just either straight or wavy for extra volume. When I need extra glam locks, I use a barrel curler. [When it comes to hair care] I try my best to use natural products without sulfates, usually from Aveda or Cream Silk. I’m happy their Ultimate Keratin Color Care conditioner is free of sulfates.
ON MATCHING FASHION WITH BEAUTY:
I try to keep it versatile. But I guess there will always be an element of playfulness; same with my makeup. Much as I love to experiment with colors and textures, my go-to look will always be earthy or neutral everyday glam, but sometimes with a pop of lip color when I’m not feeling my usual MLBB (my lips but better) nude shades.
ON KEEPING FIT:
I always kid myself that "content is my cardio.” But sometimes I really do squeeze in yoga sessions at home or jump rope or exercise on my trampoline! I also subscribe to Diet Diva’s 1200 calorie meatless meals to maintain regular healthy nutrition into my lifestyle. I’m not entirely strict with it since my work requires me to try out new food from new restos almost every week, but I believe everything in moderation applies when in comes to diet.
