Hindy Weber-Tantoco’s comeback collection is fashion with a conscience
From seed to style, Hindy Weber-Tantoco’s comeback collection provides a clean slate for local fashion
Uprooting yourself is never an easy choice. Especially if you’ve bloomed and grew where you were planted. This is a decision Hindy Weber-Tantoco had to make a few years ago. She spent nearly a decade in the retail industry, designing for several brands and various clients. Life was good, she was following the path set before her, just trying to be fruitful in any way she can. Until a major life event made her contemplate and re-evaluate her choices. In her self-introspection, Hindy realized she was exhausted from the toxic cycle of creating and not realizing how much waste clothes were making. Your favorite pair of denims alone take ten to 12 months to decompose. Your favorite lycra bodysuit? Give it 20 to 200 years before it disintegrates. Fashion is one of the major substantial factors that add excess to the earth, with almost 10,000 clothes being sent to a landfill every five minutes according to a study conducted in the UK in 2018. It’s the same mindfulness that lead her to devoting herself to all things sustainable, closely working with a family farm that offers organic meat, dairy and produce called Holy Carabao Holistic Farms. Hindy launched her collection last April and opened her pop-up store in SM Aura on the first week of September. No longer wanting to compromise the planet’s state, she opts for organic fabrics, doesn’t use a single artificial material and works closely with small business owners and artisans. Nature is in a crisis, but Hindy continuously plants seeds along with those who have been longing to save the earth, hoping that her roots are strong enough to sustain life and end cycles.
