When I got an invite to go to Milan Fashion Week for the Gucci show, I immediately felt two things: joy and fear. Happiness obviously, because it was a once in a lifetime experience and nervous because, I might not be able to keep up with the kind of real time content that was demanded by digital publishing. While stories in print have the luxury of time, digital is all about up-to-the-minute reporting. Thankfully, my fears were unfounded thanks to proper planning and help by my team; I was able to tick that box from my todo list. Full disclosure: I have always embraced digital and loved print at the same time, but sometimes, I feel like I may not be as technologically advanced or in the know when it comes to updates and upgrades in the digital sphere. But that is—again—my fear talking. So rather than avoiding it, I decided to face it head on and shift my mindset. After that, everything seemed so easy and uncomplicated. While it is comfortable to stay in something you know and are familiar with, it is also essential to update yourself with something new because with the new you are given a chance to redefine and surprise yourself. It can be as mundance as embracing social media, trying out new trends, or stepping out of your comfort zone—it is all about accepting endless possibilities. During this trip I also realized that although I dress a certain way, I also found myself gravitating towards things I wouldn’t usually pick out or wear. I was becoming more open to new ideas—red leather knee high boots? Check! A new bag silhouette? Yes! A metallic short dress? Bring it on. Who am I? I was taking risks, and honestly, I kind of liked it.

During the Gucci show my expectation was to see the usual more is more aesthetic the brand is known for, but Creative director Alessandro Michele surprised audiences with a dialed-down assemblage of pieces. He also played with hues he doesn’t usually use and injected a whole lot of sexiness to the collection. The result was unexpected, new but still very Gucci. This new attitude was all over the runway and on the street. Women came dressed in their best, according to their mood and what they liked. They didn’t dress for just anyone, they dressed for themselves.

While we are on the topic of welcoming a new attitude: take a cue from this month’s cover stars. Singer and performer Julie Anne San Jose traded her usual glam up look for something edgier, with head-to-toe denim while young beauty Kira Balinger sports a rock and roll ‘do for her first solo MEGA cover. Needless to say, embracing change is so in this season. So go ahead and take that risk. You just might like it.

Enjoy the issue!
