When you’re about to try Lagree for the first time, make sure to throw your ego out the window. No matter how many hours in a day you spend at the gym, individuals of all fitness levels would agree that the workout is a strenuous—yet refreshing—challenge.

This is exactly what happened to my colleagues and I the first time we tried Ultra Lagree PH, located at the second floor of

Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons. Having gone back to a more active lifestyle this year, I felt fairly confident I would survive the class. Moments later I walked out a survivor, but barely made it through certain sets. In the weeks that followed, I also saw the same thing happen to others, specifically with men who clearly spent majority of their free time working on a six-pack. This got me thinking: what exactly does this workout do for you and why have I not discovered it sooner?

Ultra Lagree PH was brought to Manila by husband and wife Harold and Ela Lee, who first encountered the high-intensity, low-impact workout on a trip to Los Angeles. “I love how quick yet productive each session was for me during my classes in LA, and I thought it would be great to introduce Lagree to busy people like me here in Manila,” shares Ela.

Founded by fitness innovator Sebastian Lagree, Lagree is a 45-minute class that stimulates core strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance and flexibility. Everything is performed on the Megaformer, a machine that has built-on tension springs that makes the workout uniquely challenging, helping one burn up to 800 calories.

“The challenge here is not to stop for the whole session. You have to be engaged all throughout,” starts Harold. “The workout is difficult to master because you’re always doing something different. Once you think you’re getting the hang of the front part of the machine, the instructors tell you to switch to the end of the machine, which is harder since it requires more resistance.”

It certainly is an advantage that the class can only accommodate up to seven individuals per session. This helped emphasize what we each had to work on—in my case, it was strengthening my back. Over the course of a few weeks, certain movements became more bearable and I slowly felt my body getting stronger and more toned, thanks to instructors who correct your every move. Also, not one class is ever the same; you will feel like you have to keep coming back for more.

Since opening last year, Ultra Lagree PH’s clientele has expanded, with each class typically consisting of a mix of those from the corporate world, fitness enthusiasts, athletes and celebrities. “I think why we were off to a great start is because we make sure that our clients feel like family. Our team of experts is dedicated to never stop learning, finding innovative ways for our clients to enjoy,” says Ela.

“You enjoy Lagree the more you do it. It’s cardio plus body resistance so you feel stronger every day—physically and mentally. I feel like my focus has improved and that I can conquer more in a day,” Harold adds.

Perfect for those of you who are always on the go, Ultra Lagree PH really doesn’t demand much from your day; all you need is just 45 minutes to feel the difference.
