THE BIG CLASH
Cartier masters the art of duality with a new and iconic jewelry collection, Clash de Cartier
Cartier has always been on a balancing act. Mixing attitude with the classic, the fierce with the dainty and beautiful, Cartier’s most iconic collections, Love, Juste un Clou, Panthère and Trinity prove how the brand successfully mixes every facet of the woman. But never have they brought together opposing ideas into a single collection until now, with the new Clash de Cartier. Clash de Cartier fully embodies the aesthetic of the brand and that of a younger market, with the collection catering to this new generation of women. The curves of each piece represent the soft side of the design while the studs and its taut structure give off power and strength. The design itself draws from Cartier’s traditions, such as the brand’s love for geometry, which dates back to the 1930s. What makes it magical are the interconnected studs that are mobile proving that every piece in this collection is a highly complex feat of craftsmanship. Each one is mounted and polished but is precisely calibrated to magnetize and hold the studs in place. The buff-top domed clous carrés are finished with a bright polish that is produced over a series of operations designed to give off that flicker effect when light hits the surface. As a final touch, the inside of each piece is delicately scalloped for comfortability.
Who better represent the art of duality than Kaya Scodelario. The fiercely beautiful English-Brazilian actress first came into the spotlight in 2007 as one of the iconic characters in the teen drama Skins. Quite recently she also appeared in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, a film that opened to acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. It was this kind of versatility and mixed origins that convinced the brand that she was the perfect representative of the collection. “What we love about Kaya is the meeting of two cultures: a Latin American raised in England. Kaya cultivates two facets of the same energy in a stylish balancing act, a creative duel between serious and quirky. Like the Clash de Cartier collection, the actress combines the aristocratic codes with a touch of irreverence and elegance,” shares Arnaud Carrez, International Marketing and Communications Director at Cartier International.
In this day and age, one cannot just be good at one thing. One has to be multi-faceted enough to face an ever changing world. As a representation of that, Cartier celebrates everyone’s individualities and differences with a luxurious collection that will no doubt become an iconic classic in everyone’s jewelry box.
