MAC Cosmetics and Maine Mendoza were once again the talk of the town when they launched the social media phenom and host’s second MAC Maker @MaineDCM collection. The first @MaineDCM Lipstick was a sprightly rosy beige that sold out within minutes. The message was clear—we wanted more Maine, more MAC. This time around, the collab opted for a rich, burgundy red lipstick—long Maine’s signature lipstick shade—and paired it with a slightly more blue-toned Lipglass. For the record, only @MaineDCM has a Lipglass in her MAC Maker collection, a campaign that brings together the biggest beauty influencers from around the globe and asking them to customize a shade with the iconic beauty brand. The event started with an exclusive press dinner with Maine and MAC’s main women, followed by a riotous beauty party filled to the brim with beauty influencers, artists and some of the city’s most beautiful.
Destination travel should always call for destination feasting. A full day tour around a new city is never complete until you sit down inside a local eatery savoring the smells and later eating only the best food that region has to offer. While most tourists go to apps such as Yelp! to find the best restaurants around, the real deal is to find out where the locals go, as you will get a taste of their culture as well. And that is exactly what the guys from the Bistronomia group were thinking—to bring the best of Catalonian cuisine with BCN by Las Flores.
Located at the 2/L of Conrad S Maison, in Pasay City, BCN by Las Flores is 100-plus-seater restaurant that is a spin-off of the popular Las Flores restaurant. The interiors itself are admirable as entering the restaurant quickly transports you to the beautiful energy of Barcelona from its street map décor on the wall and wooden accents to the pop art display that honors the iconic paper mache giants from the region. Helming the kitchen is Barcelona native, Chef Alfredo Rodriguez, who shares what to expect in the restaurant. “Indulging in BCN’s food is eating what the locals eat. Food is done quite differently here, but all in the spirit of authentic Catalan cuisine.” Add to that the imposing wine cellar around the tables, the restaurant is your perfect place to wine and dine.
Prepare you palette with snackable appetizers while you catch up with friends. Try out the aged Chorizo Iberico that goes well with bread and mashed tomatoes or the tuna tartare salad—a deconstructed version of the tuna tartar cones from Las Flores. If you like hot starters, choose the Chorizo croquetas or the grilled octopus (Pulpo a La Gallega) as a seafood option.
Moving forward to the highlight of every meal, these Catalan main dishes from the side streets of Barcelona are your best bet for a fulfilling meal. Start with the Arroz Con Bogavante for a fill of whole Maine lobsters or go traditional with their different versions of Paella from Paella Setas (mushroom) to Paella Conchinillo (pork). Complement these rice dishes with more savory mains, from fresh seafood such as barramundi, sea bass and our local grouper, lapu-lapu, baked and seasoned perfectly. How about a serving of meat? Check out the Costillar de Cordero, Cochinilo Segovanio or if you’re really hungry order the meat sampler, Parillada de Carnes, that includes pork ribs, tenderloin, flavored Spanish sausages and chicken. End the delicious journey with a sweet serving of Churros and Crema Catalana.
