Memoirs of the Future

Ellis Co proves to be unmatched with the launch of ARCHIVES

- BY PEACHES GARCIA

It’s undeniable that quite a number of people don’t really expect a lot from 21-year olds. It’s because usually, they would still be in college or just about to begin their professional journey in the real world. However, it has been pretty evident that the younger generation has so much skill, passion, and creativity up their sleeves. A prime example of this is Ellis Co, an upand-coming creative who has now entered the world of fashion through the launch of his very own clothing line, ARCHIVES. Dubbed as “Memoirs of the Future,” the fashion presentation produced by AMRG incorporated unthinkable elements that definitely put Ellis Co in the spotlight. It began with guests experiencing a gastronomic journey with culinary works by Chef Margarita Fores, which was then followed by the official start of the show with a musical performance of one of Vivaldi’s classic works by Manila String Machine.

BREAKING FREE FROM THE NORM

With a total of 44 looks, guests were enamoured with the impeccably stylish neutral garments that were showcased on the runway. Ranging from blacks to whites, greys to browns, the first ARCHIVES collection had touches of Ellis Co’s personality all over it. These were seen through the reimagined oversized pieces with obi belts and curved cut lapels, which are considered to be his signature touch; as well as the addition of boxing gloves and headgear, a nod to his background in boxing. While all of that may be seen as eccentric and unconventional, the designer himself said, “Basically, I’m trying to make something that hasn’t been done yet, but is still familiar. I try to find the familiarity in the unfamiliar.” To cap off “Memoirs of the Future,” electrifying performances by MDMA and DJ Patty Tiu brought the house down as they ended the night on the highest of notes.
