Road to the Ball
In this year’s ABS-CBN Ball, stars were invited to reconnect with our Filipino identity in celebration and support to Bantay Bata 163’s agenda of helping the Filipino youth. The dress code Modern Filipiniana challenged stars to reinvent the iconic Filipiniana silhouettes into fashion forward and experimental gowns. From reimagining butterfly sleeves to referencing Filipino tradition and culture, Metro cover girls Anne Curtis, Liza Soberano, Maymay Entrata, and Nadine Lustre took us to their collaborative design process and behind-the-scenes.
Anne's Mich Dulce gown brightened up the room with its sweet and experimental silhouette. She graced the red carpet in a 1950s inspired Filipiniana gown with exaggerated butterfly sleeves, a welcomed disruption to the traditional garb. The gown was also detailed with uneven hems and played on translucence.
What materials were used for the gown?
We used matte organza in the shade of taupe to really get that clean, minimalist translucent effect we were going for. To top off the look, Anne insisted on a fascinator, a signature of mine, to complete the vibe, so I made her a ribbonned one to complete the look. She was so sweet and spot on about it! -Mich Dulce, Designer
What stayed and evolved on your ABS-CBN Ball makeup looks?
Anne has been known for her less is more look ever since. Through the years, we have been playing and experimenting with looks and all kinds of makeup but this year we opted for something clean and simple. Last year's makeup look was more playful in color and depth, while this year we were inspired by Philippine cinema stars in the '50s. Makeup then was subtle yet strikingly beautiful and just brought out the natural facial structure by using minimal and natural colors - Robbie Piñera, Makeup Artist
