Louis Vuitton Seoul Maison Opening

-

KOREA’S FIRST Louis Vuitton store opened in Seoul in 1991. The first global store inaugurated in Cheongdam-dong in 2000, that now becomes the Maison Louis Vuitton Seoul. Redesigned by architect Frank Gehry, the building draws inspiration from historical Korean architecture such as the 18th century Hwaseong Fortress, and the traditional Dongnae Hakchum (crane dance), whose dynamic swooping movements inspired the store’s curved-glass façade. “What struck me when I first visited Seoul nearly 25 years ago, was the relationship between the architecture and the natural landscape. I still remember clearly the powerful impressions I had stepping up from the garden of Jongmyo Shrine” explains Frank Gehry, adding “I am delighted to have designed Maison Louis Vuitton Seoul, reflecting the traditional values of the Korean culture.” For its interiors, the architect and designer Peter Marino conceived the spaces as a dialogue with Gehry’s exterior. Harmoniously balancing vast spaces and precious niches, the interior offers an exclusive experience where clients plunge into a world of artistry, creation, and craftsmanship.
