-

ABOUT a thousand runners clocked in to enjoy the festivities, prizes, and to have a good time sweating it out at last Sunday’s Managan Ta Ga!, a benefit event by the University of Mindanao Alumni Affairs Office in support of the school’s scholars.

The runners were an ecstatic mix of employees across all branches, alumni participants, and some even came with their families in tow at the UM Matina campus.

Zumba dancing had the crowd warmed up, and meals provided by generous event partners assured no one was going to go home hungry or go through the run thirsty.

As with every healthy competition though there were of course prizes at stake for the top three male and female runners in the 10k, 5k, and 3k categories.

Taking home cash prizes and medals for their feat are the following:

For the 10k Male was Jimboy Lugay at first place, followed by Elmer Bartolo and Dante Baay at second and third, respectively; while the 10k female had Angelica Villanueva at first, followed by Madelyn Carter at second and Elemlita Herrera at third.

For the 5k category, the male top runners were Fritz Lantoco (1st), Mark Ruto (2nd), and Marvin Ponce at third; while the female top runners had Sharmaine Yuzon at first, Arlieny Onso at second, and Irene Requirme at third.

Lastly, the 3k category had Daryl Mark Daban at first, Roberto Cain for second place, and George Tsuririda at third for the males; and Sharah Diaz, Geralyn Cuera, and Anlene Reporte at third for the females.

Fun prizes like the Oldest Runner and Youngest Runner were also handed out, as well as raffle items coming from UM’s External Relations and International Affairs Office.

The event was also in partnership with the local government who provided traffic aide and assistance, as well as additional security for the runners.

UM Alumni Affairs head Stilo Floyd Schneider thanked the participants and assured that their contribution would go towards plans and programs that can assist more UMians in obtaining their tertiary education.
