- BY RHODA GRACE B. SARON

THREE persons who tried to sneak seven kilos of marijuana into the city were arrested by the authorities at the checkpoint in Barangay Lasang, Bunawan District past Saturday midnight.

Col. Nolasco Mempin, the Task Force Davao commander, identified the suspects as Feljun Lavilla Toledo, 34; Ali Shaquille Yosores Biruar, 21; and Beboy Alvarez Carbonel, 20, all local residents.

Mempin said the illegal drugs intercepted from their possession were six bundles of dried marijuana leaves, weighting seven kilos with an estimated street value of P840,000.

Operatives of the Task Force Lawin flagged down for inspection a white taxi, with plate number LXC 865 and body number 740, around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The taxi, driven by Carbonel, was traveling from Mati City. Biruar and Toledo were the passengers.

While at the inspection area, inspector CAA II Abdul Asdali noted bulging objects in the three backpacks placed at the backseat of the taxi.

This prompted the inspector to further check the content of the backpacks. It exposed six bundles of marijuana.

The checkpoint team was jointly led by Capt. Jonathan Sarausas of Task Group Lawin, Police Major Noel Villahermosa of Bunawan police and Jodell Ryan Enero of PDEA XI.

The suspects and the illegal items were properly turned over to the

Bunawan police for proper disposition and appropri- ate action.

Police are still investigating where the suspect got the marijuana.
