Tirso Tan Jr., motion designer and lettering artist
Davao Graphic Designers Community has a vision of becoming a self-sustaining local arts and design community that provides a venue for creatives toward global recognition. Starting this week, we highlight the works of some of our highachieving members in these pages. Are you ready for awesome? My name is Tirso Tan Jr. I'm a 22-year old motion designer and lettering artist. I'm currently employed with Plainly Simple Studios here in Davao, we're a motion design studio that helps clients tell their story through explainer videos. My interests are mainly Harry Potter, podcasts, and puns. Like some designers out there, I was tinkering around Photoshop when I was a kid. That grew into a passion of design that has been with me 'til now. I was particularly interested in lettering and motion design when I discovered them in design school a few years ago. 36 Days of Type is a design challenge that invites designers, illustrators, and other artists to express their own interpretation of the alphabet and numbers. I was in a bit of a "lettering hiatus" so to speak until just a few weeks ago when I decided to finally get off my butt and start posting again. I've actually been meaning to participate in 36 days of Type before so this was a perfect opportunity for me to post regularly again as well as further develop my own lettering style. I'm actually not following the official date of posting since they haven't announced one for 2019 yet so I'm just doing this for my own creative fulfillment. Other than 36 Days of Type, I don't have any projects planned as of yet. But do keep an eye out on any upcoming art events here in Davao because I may be there selling some of my own artworks.
