23 nabbed in Kalinaw

AUTHORITIE­S rounded up 23 fugitives in the latest rounds of Oplan: Kalinaw in various urban poor communitie­s in the city on Thursday.

Capt. Maria Theresita Gaspan, the spokespers­on of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the series of operations also resulted in the identity, background check and profiling of 1,200 transient residents, including 32 persons without valid identifica­tion card.

Gaspan said the 23 arrested persons have warrant of arrest as they are facing various criminal charges before the court.

She identified those facing crime as Rene Formentera Lapis (rape), Condrado Bacalso Romero (murder and attempted murder), Daniel Lupo Morales Estrera (illegal drug), Edward Benjamin Ronquillo Jeminez (illegal drug), Jasper Mangiran Amorganda (frustrated homicide), and Vicente Latonio Gabin (theft), Janeth Tio Flores (theft), Rico Señerez Jaylon (violence against women and their children), Paul Frederick Johnson Esguera (violence against women and their children), Joven Basco Geverola (acts of lascivious­ness in relation to child abuse law), Vicente San Diego Jacinto (illegal gambling), Bonifacio Abarca Martinez (illegal gambling), Patricio Lampadio

The operations were conducted in the police areas of Sta Ana (Purok 3, Barangay 20-B), San Pedro (Puroks 4 & 5 Rizal Extension, Barangay 38-D), Talomo (RC Village, Dumoy), Sasa (Km. 13, Jasa 1 and Jasa 2 Sasa), Buhangin (Mangga Street, Purok San Nicholas, Brgy Buhangin Proper), Bunawan (Purok 9, Mahayag), Paquibato (Purok 20, Sitio Malipaga, Barangay Malabog), Toril (Country Homes, Barangay Lubugan), Tugbok (Sitio Copay, Barangay Bago Oshiro), Calinan (Purok 25, Teachers Village, Calinan), Baguio (Purok 1-A, Baguio) and Marilog (Sitio Cantimon, Barangay Salaysay).

Regularly aiding the DCPO are Task Force Davao, Philippine Coast Guard, Regional Mobile Unit, National Intelligen­ce Coordinati­ng Agency, Bureau of Fire and Protection, Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group, Regional Intelligen­ce Unit, 44th Special Action Company, City Treatment and Rehabilita­tion Center for Drug Dependents and City Health Office.

Gaspan said a total of 521 residents also availed of the free medical checkup and supplement­al food feeding while 509 persons received free medicines and vitamins.

The operation Oplan: Kalinaw is a four-in-one package that includes profiling of transient residents, manhunt and arrest of fugitives, community outreach (free medical check-up and giving of medicines and vitamins), and community empowermen­t through crime prevention education.
