DAVAO CITY - Penong’s Barbecue Seafood & Grill makes its debut on a national stage by teaming up with Sunrise Events to promote a healthy lifestyle with the holding of the Penong’s 5150 Triathlon Davao on July 7, 2019 at the Waterfront Hotel. On the same day, the Go For Gold Sunrise Sprint will also be held.

Penong’s co-owners Ma. Teresa Regis and Vanessa Mae Uy Santos, both avid triathletes, said they want to help the public become more aware of the importance of health and wellness while expanding their business.

“This is an opportunity to show everyone, especially my children, that this event is not just focusing on selling barbecues but also promoting a healthy lifestyle. This is doing something for the good of everybody,” said Regis. Uy Santos also encouraged the public to adopt a healthier lifestyle through sports and exercise.

“Being part of Penong’s ever growing family I personally advocate a healthy and active lifestyle. I see this partnership as an opportunity to show my support to my fellow athletes as well as those who are athletes at heart,” she said.

The races hope to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and embrace multisport training and racing.

The Olympic distance Penong’s 5150 Triathlon Davao includes a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and a 10 km run. The Sunrise Sprint includes a 750m swim, a 20km bike and a 5km run.

Sunrise Events Founder Wilfred Steven Uytengsu said 5150 is the Olympic distance brand of World Triathlon Corporation. The aim of holding the shorter distance event is to encourage even more people to join triathlon.

“The distance is still challenging for the novice triathlete and we hope to encourage many individuals to start with this distance. As more and more people seek a healthier lifestyle, triathlon is well positioned to attract many new participants,” said Uytengsu.

The two short distance triathlon races are ideal for newbies to triathlon as well as those who have graduated from the IRONKIDS races and who want to continue in the sport.

The 1.5-kilometer swim starts at the beachfront of Waterfront Insular Hotel. Participants will swim an “L” shaped course in the calm waters of Pakiputan strait. Participants exit the swim and head to the transition area in the hotel parking lot for the bike course.

The 40km bike course is a two loop ride. Participants exit transition, head towards the main road and turn right into Daang Maharlika Highway heading north. The long flat coastal road will make a fast and easy-to-navigate bike course.

The 10km run is a flat one loop course. After exiting transition in Waterfront Insular Hotel, participants turn right and use the right side of the Daang Maharlika Highway going north. Participants will make the turnaround at KM 5 and head south, entering the hotel heading to the beach area for the finish line.

The event will be held through title sponsor Penong’s Barbecue Seafood and Grill, venue host Davao City, Waterfront Insular Hotel, official logistics and couriers partner 2Go Express, official apparel F2P, official hydration Nature’s Spring, major sponsors David’s Salon, media sponsors One Sport on Cignal, Trilife Magazine, Asiatri.com, Finisher Pix, marketing partners Alaska, AlcoPlus, Australia Harvest, Cetaphil, Devant, Sun Life Financial, Regent Foods, Sanicare, Timex, registration partner Active Network, official hotel Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao City.
