TESDA holds skills competition 2019
OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA) – Nine competitors from the Technical- Vocational Education and Training ( TVET) providers and TESDA Technology Institutes (TTIs) took part in a two- day Provincial Skills Competition (PSC) of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) held in cities of Ozamiz and Oroquieta, June 26.
In partnership with Misamis Occidental Technical Training Institutions Association ( MOTTIA), the undertaking aims to create greater awareness of the importance of TVET and the development of skills – locally and globally.
It also provides the TVET system with an objective and precise means
of measuring the comparative and collective quality of its output.
Also, promote cooperation between and among institutions in the TESDA stakeholders as well as magnetize the attention and sustain the interest of young students towards occupations.
TESDA Misamis Occidental Director Miraluna BajeLopez said the skills competition featured five trade areas which are critical sectors in generating employment such as cooking, restaurant service, automotive, electrical installation and welding.
She said the competition is an avenue to showcase skills excellence of technicalvocational students.
“Skills competition like this brings out the best and brightest from various technical-vocational institutions in the province,” Lopez said.
She added that each trainee is not only competing to be the best in his field, they are also competing in front of industry experts who are evaluating them, so it is also a good exposure.
Lopez reiterated that the contestants have to give or show their best in this competition to become qualifiers in the regional, national and especially in the world skills competition.
Councilor Eduardo Cebedo, for his part, underscored the importance of TVET; and knowledge, skills and right attitude to achieve in life.
Cebedo said, “You must have the right attitude so that you can achieve what you want to be in the future. You can achieve your wish for your family; you can achieve what you can be.”
The skills competition is a friendly activity among students of the technical vocational education and training sector. This involves young students of technical vocational schools and colleges in the province.
The winners in the 2019 PSC will represent the province in the regional skills competition on July 18, 2019.
