Solon pushes for better healthcare
-- Senator Pia Cayetano is pushing for several measures aimed at providing better healthcare services and facilities to Filipinos to help the country attain its sustainable development goals (SDG).
According to a statement on Tuesday, Cayetano has filed the second batch of her pet bills, which include three proposals that are in line with SDG 3--ensure healthy lives and promote the wellbeing for all.
The three proposals seek to provide one midwife in every barangay; establish specialty centers in government hospitals and medical centers; and promote folic acid food fortification and supplementation.
The senator also filed several pro-environmental bills in pursuit of SDG 13, which is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Cayetano sought the establishment of the Department of Disaster Resilience, which will become the main agency in charge of responding to disasters and mitigating its impacts.
Her other proposed environmental laws include the “Sustainable Forest Management Act,” which provides for the conservation of the country’s forest lands and resources; and the “Bicycle Act” which seeks to recognize bicycles as an alternative and sustainable mode of transportation.
“Hopefully, with the help of our colleagues in Congress, our legislative action plans can help us attain our shared vision for a better country,” Cayetano said.
Also part of her legislative priorities includes the Magna Carta of Student-Athletes; Increasing the Maximum Value of the Family Home; Act Instituting Absolute Divorce and Dissolution of Marriage in the Philippines; and Institutionalizing Nationwide Microfinance Programs for the Development of Micro and Small Enterprises.
