Instituto Cervantes features four contemporary Spanish Films
FROM August 20-23, Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will present 'Contemporáneos', a film cycle featuring four contemporary Spanish films. The screenings will take place at the FDCP Cinemathéque in Davao City during these dates at 6PM. The film series will open on Tuesday (August 20) with Julia Ist (2017) by Elena Martín. The future had been very clear for Julia, until she joined the Erasmus program in Berlin where she was completely alone. She realized that she did not know herself that well nor what she wanted to do with her life. The cycle will continue the next day (August 21) with María y los demás (2016). Ever since her mother died, María has been taking care of her family. She is responsible yet controlling, and when her father falls in love with his nurse and announces his engagement to her, María feels as though her life is falling apart. The documentary Saura(s) (2017) by Félix Viscarret will be shown on Thursday (August 22). This work is a film portrait of Carlos Saura, an acclaimed film maker and writer, through his conversations with his seven children. Finally, the film cycle will close on Friday (August 23) with the drama No sé decir adiós (2017), by Lino Escalera. Clara receives a call from her father, with whom she has not spoken for a long time. He is suffering from a terminal illness, which Clara refuses to accept. Against everyone's advice, she takes her father to be treated, both of them escaping the reality which neither can accept.
