Police outpost hit foiled
COTABATO CITY -- Unidentified men tried but failed to set ablaze a newlybuilt Community Police Assistance Center (Compac) in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat on Friday night, police said.
Capt. Herman Luna,
Lambayong town police chief, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview that four men doused the building with gasoline and lit it.
However, alert village watchmen nearby chased the arsonists who managed to escape.
“The village watchmen, with the help of (other) villagers, then tried to put (out) the fire until a fire truck and firefighters arrived,” Luna said.
The building only sustained minor damage on its ceiling and window jams, he added.
Luna said the arson attempt on the police outpost was the work of people who do not want peace to reign in Lambayong.
The police established Compac in the borders of barangays New Cebu and Tinumiguez where crimes regularly occur.
The town government has been implementing the “No ID, No Entry” policy in the area due to an increase in criminal activities these past several months, including the recent murder of a former mayoral candidate and a lady municipal employee.
Lambayong Mayor Florante Agduma has offered an undetermined sum of reward money to anyone who can provide information about those responsible in the series of shooting incidents in the locality.
