NOWADAYS, there is Tawag ng Tanghalan. But, once there was an amateur singing contest SuperWheel Search For Singing Stars, also a very popular national singing contest way back then.

And after almost 35 years, the champions from Davao City will be holding a reunion get-together mini concert.

Yes, they are the Champions and pride of Davao City.

Elnora Hassan-Altrecha was the grand national champion in 1985.

At the young age of 17, the then student of Ateneo de Davao University won the grand prize in the live competition hosted by the famous Tito Vic and Joey on Eat Bulaga.

Another Davao singers who won in the weekly rounds in the competition are Robert Sampayan and Ric Panerio, Jr.

Panerio was the first runner up in 1983 grand finals. Sampayan reached one of the national finals.

Also making a name in the competition is Erick Diao, the regional finalist for two consecutive years – 1984 and 85. Diao later became a member of the popular boyband Flippers (Hindi Ako Iiyak fame). He is currently performing regularly with his Enrique Montre band at Marco Polo Hotel, aside from other gigs in the city.

Another beautiful soul is the duo of Marilou Bacurnay and Jeannette ApaGreen, they were outstanding performers during their time. Currently, they are now based in Japan and USA respectively.

Incidentally, these caliber singers are here in the city, and they decide to hold a mini concert.

Dubbed as Sali Kami Reunion 2019, The SuperWheel Search for Singing Stars Night, will be held at Eagles Bar, Marco Polo Hotel on July 24, Wednesday, at 9 p.m.

“I’m sure it would be a showcase of singing rivals back then, at the same time a get-together,” Bacurnay said. “It would be more fun, meeting and jamming with an old rivals and friends. Lingaw kaayo ni ba.”

The Reunion of Sali Kami Singers is for free.
