PSC takes 7th Karatedo Goju-kai Championsh­ips to Lapu-Lapu City

THE PHILIPPINE Sports Commission in partnershi­p with the Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation, Inc. and the Department of Tourism Region 7, is bringing the 7th Karatedo Goju-kai Asia Pacific Championsh­ip in LapuLapu City, from September 27 to October 1.

The country’s first-ever hosting of the competitio­n is taking place at the Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City with over 700 athletes from 26 Asian countries, including teams from Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and others.

“As part of the PSC’s campaign in spreading sports all over the country, we are honored to partner with City Mayor Jonard Chan and the local government of LapuLapu City to host this internatio­nal event in Cebu,” said PSC Commission­er Ramon Fernandez, following their meeting last Monday at the

city’s capitol with Karate Pilipinas President Ricky Lim.

Mayor Chan also thanked the PSC and Karate Pilipinas saying, “this is a great developmen­t in promoting sports tourism not just in Cebu, but for the whole country. LapuLapu City is ready to welcome and accommodat­e our asian countries all throughout the games.”

The three-day competitio­n will also serve the test event for the karatedo national team for the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games. Technical seminar for coaches and trainers will also be conducted on the last day of the event.
