SEA Games organizers plan to stream games on Facebook, YouTube

MANILA—Besides the TV broadcast, organizers are also eyeing to air live matches of the Southeast Asian Games this year on YouTube, Facebook, and the competition's official website.

Pauline Ick, broadcast director of the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee, said the group is looking to show events online for wider audience reach and real-time updates.

Should the plan push through, the country will follow in the footsteps of Singapore in the 2015 SEA Games and Jakarta in the 2018 Asian Games, which broadcast games on the web.

“We are actually looking at doing also streaming in some other sports. We are working with other groups for that, so that all other sports will have exposure,” Ick said.

With more than 500 events from 56 sports happening simultaneously from November 30 to December 11, live-streaming those will drew more viewers.

Ick added that there is also a plan to put together a SEA Games news channel to make the viewing of the competition available outside the Philippines. A mobile app for the latest scores and updates is also on the list for better coverage, according to the Phisgoc.

The Philippines will be hosting the regional games for the fourth time in history, the first time since 2005 where the country became the overall champions after collecting 113 gold medals. ABS-CBN News
