2019 SEA Games: PH netball squad hopes to make home fans proud

-

THE PHILIPPINES national netball team is seeking a podium finish in the Southeast Asian Games later this year.

Sae-Ann Gallegos, competition manager of the netball team, told ANC’s “Gametime” on Thursday that the players will undergo one more training with SEA Games competitor Singapore.

“We didn’t fare well in 2015, 2017 (SEA Games). Now we're hoping for 2019, we'll have a podium finish,” said Gallegos.

Netball is similar to basketball in that the object of the game is to shoot a ball through an elevated goal, but netball forbids dribbling and running with the ball, requires 7 players on each side, sets a time limit for passing, among other differences.

Gallegos said the Philippines has made improvements as shown by recent feats in international tournaments.

“Last year we joined two tournaments in Korea, we had a first place (finish) there. We joined the Asian championships, a first time for our country. Out of 12, we made it to the ninth,” she said.

Gallegos said the squad expects tough competition from Singapore and Malaysia. ABS-CBN News
