Foreign groups looking for areas to invest in city
A TOP official of the city government yesterday said that three foreign business groups have been looking for opportunities in the city.
At the weekly I-Speak at the city hall, April Marie Dayap, chief of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center, identified the groups as those from Singapore, Thailand and China, including those from Hong Kong.
“We are very thankful that there are many that are interested in venturing businesses in Davao, and because of this, more jobs will be generated by the people living in the city,” Dayap said.
This developed as investors from Japan and Singapore are also expected to visit the city to look for investment areas, Dayap said.
She said the 10-member delegation from Singapore was looking for opportunities in agriculture as they wanted agricultural produce to be brought to their country. Singapore investors have started buying durian from the city.
Secretary Emmanuel F. Pinol, chair of the Mindanao Development Authority, earlier said that a team of Singaporean inspectors
completed the inspection of the processing plants for vegetables in Bukidnon as the nation-state is planning to import vegetables and fruits from Mindanao. In the case of the Thais, Dayap said they are looking at partnering with local investors who can sell their products in the city. Like the Singaporeans, the Chinese, she added, are also looking for investment opportunities in agriculture in the city. A Chinese company has also been in the city buying bananas for its market in its country. Other sectors that foreign investors are looking into include light manufacturing, food processing, tourism and parks.
