GLASSHOUSES: If one makes it in MSU, one can make it anywhere

- CAROLINA V. PERALTA

NEW YORK (MindaNews) – MSUe Village International Northeastern USA gathered at the Flushing Meadows Park Unisphere in New York City to join MSUans worldwide in celebrating the 58th Founding Anniversary of Mindanao State University. MSU was formed by virtue of Republic Act 1387 enacted on September 1, 1961.

“Thank you MSU for the lessons learned, friendships made and most of all for the

‘Isang Basong Tubig; survival skills we learned ... if one makes it in MSU, one can make it anywhere.”

We are grateful to all who continue to make the institution great by adhering to the highest standards at the same time continuing to look at ways to constantly evolve to be the best institution it can become, offering a unique brand of education firmly founded on values.

The older graduates of MSU expect the younger generation to carry on the legacy and adhere to the highest standards of excellence -- a mark MSU has made and maintained through the years. The better MSU becomes, the prouder we all become. A tall order indeed, but nonnegotiable.

We all must also remember that Integration of cultures was the main purpose for which MSU was founded. While we recognize and appreciate cultural differences - we also realize that there are more to unite us than divide us, that there is beauty in each culture and there is beauty in diversity.

We are grateful for the great friendships made and look forward to stronger communities through bonds which first bloomed in MSU and continue to form among the larger community of MSUans (young and old) worldwide.

We thank the MSU Alumni Association and MEVI International for the reunions they have been organizing with the sole purpose of maintaining and strengthening bonds among MSUans.

We thank MSUans who are working to help build better communities through sustainable means, sharing resources but most of all lending their expertise MSU has imparted.

It was a sunny day in New York with the 2019 US Open finals ongoing a few yards away. The Unisphere at the backdrop reminds us that we are all a part of a large community of people - a community we all need to nurture, a community badly needing the expertise and values we learned from a great institution. We can only give what we have and if we give the best in us, MSU has not failed society.

Mabuhay MSU!”
